State of the Blog and Links

Hope everyone had a great three-day weekend.  We’ve been just hanging around the house and getting some work done that we never seem to get to.  Joy!

I’d like to take a moment to recap a little bit of how my first full month blogging went.  It’s been a great experience so far.  I’d probably say that it’s a learning month and hopefully things will just improve from here.  There are a few “firsts” that I’ve had the pleasure to experience:

  • My first Adsense revenue!  On the 29th, I received the first click on one of my feed adds.  Thanks to whomever did this.  You’ve earned me a whopping $.19.  That’s going directly towards my debt. ;)
  • My first writer’s block: It can be challenging some times to come up with fresh content.  I think it’s more about being in the right mood or state of mind, rather than there being nothing new to write about.  I found out that I have to learn how to come up with ideas!  It’s a process and doesn’t just happen unless you work towards it.
  • My first theme frustration.  I hope those of you who make it back to the site aren’t too attached to this theme because it drives me crazy!  I was more focused on getting started than on finding the right theme…and I guess I didn’t know what I did and didn’t like until I started doing a little work.  Hopefully, this won’t happen too much, but I want to make sure and have an attractive and user-friendly site.  Be on the lookout for the new look!
  • My first instance of my wife pointing out that I need to pay more attention to what I write.  Hey…do as I say, not as I do!  I’m not perfect!  Love you baby!–JR

Thanks to all my subscribers and to those of you who have just wandered over.  I really appreciate you coming by and please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.  Email me: jr@capitalcouplesfinance.com.  In closing: here are a few of my favorite posts from the last week.  Enjoy!

  • My Two Dollars explains that those wonderful citizens over at Comcast are going to start limiting internet access for bandwidth hogs: e.g. kids who download lots of songs.  Is your kid going to get you cut off?
  • Here’s an article I never thought I’d see.  Wisebread provides a how-to guide for regifting without getting caught, complete with justification.  You don’t have to feel bad anymore!
  • Clever Dude has a co-worker who believes that kids help you forget your problems.  This inspired a pretty good dialogue, including an insightful comment from yours truly.  Check it out.
  • J.D. at Get Rich Slowly got in the doghouse from his wife for this post.  Seems she thought he wasn’t quite clear enough that these ideas for raising money fast should be an absolute last case scenario.  Payday loans are even on there.
  • The Simple Dollar explains some unexpected consequences for purchasing expensive gifts for others.  I really enjoyed this one because Trent points out that it’s not just about how much we’re spending; it’s also about how our spending can make people feel.
  • Finally, a guide for being happy. Definitely a must read, especially if you tend towards seeing the glass as half empty.

Hope everyone had a great holiday.  Cheers!

Congrats on your first month - you have a two week headstart on my wife and I - we are still waiting on our first adsense revenue :) For such a new blog, it looks quite professional. Keep in touch!

Great progress. The adsense revenue will come, don’t worry. Just don’t rely on it to go grow as fast as it has for others in the past. A tip for blog post ideas is to jot them down in a notepad or your smart phone because they can come to you at any time.
